An Odoo EDI Pipeline Saving €1M Yearly
EDI is how big retail, wholesale and logistics actually talk: structured ORDERS, DESADV and INVOIC messages flowing between trading partners under strict format and timing rules. For suppliers to major retailers, EDI capability is a condition of the purchase order, not a nice-to-have.
We built and run an EDI pipeline in the Netherlands that transforms and processes thousands of invoices a day, replacing licensed middleware and saving the client roughly one million euros a year.
What this looks like in practice
- The scale. Thousands of documents a day, transformed and processed through a pipeline that has to be right every time, because at that volume a silent failure is a late shipment or an unpaid invoice, not a minor glitch.
- Replacing licensed middleware. The pipeline replaced licensed EDI middleware, removing recurring per-document licensing that scaled punitively with the business. The saving is roughly one million euros a year.
- Standards and partner mapping. EDIFACT and X12 message handling with per-partner mapping and validation, because every major trading partner has its own quirks that must be enforced before a message leaves.
- Transport per mandate. AS2, SFTP or VAN connectivity depending on what each partner requires, with delivery acknowledgement tracking so nothing is assumed delivered.
- Error handling that scales. Failed messages queue with reasons and alerts and an owner, rather than vanishing, which is the only way a pipeline at this volume stays trustworthy.
What this means for your build
- Depth you can draw on. These systems exist because we went deep on hard problems, and that experience is what you’re buying, not a slide deck of logos.
- Engineering, not reselling. The value is the judgement to avoid expensive wrong turns, which only comes from having built the difficult version before.
- Scoped to your reality. We’d map your specific problem and scope it with an hours breakdown, rather than assume your situation matches the reference.
- Built to survive upgrades. Work built with the framework rather than against it, so it ports across Odoo versions rather than breaking, as the WIP work across v15 to v19 shows.
- One accountable partner. Senior oversight from our UK base, with delivery supported by our India team, on the hook for the outcome.
