Custom Product Configurator Development
When your product is made to spec (dimensions, materials, options, rules), a static catalogue can’t sell it. A configurator lets customers or sales staff compose exactly what they need, priced live, with the rules enforced by the backend instead of a salesperson’s memory.

What the work involves
- Rules engine in the backend. Compatibility constraints, dimension logic and pricing formulas live in Odoo where your team maintains them, not hardcoded in frontend JavaScript nobody can touch.
- Live pricing that’s actually right. Every configuration prices from current cost and margin rules, so quotes are commercially safe by construction.
- Frontend built for the buyer. Guided steps, visual feedback and validation that prevents impossible configurations before they’re requested.
- Straight-through processing. A completed configuration becomes a quote, a BoM-ready specification, or a manufacturing order, ending the re-keying of custom orders.
- Sales-side and customer-side modes. The same rules engine can serve a public website configurator and an internal sales quoting tool, so both channels quote identically.
How custom work is delivered
- Specification from the business outcome. We start from what the work must achieve, not a feature list, and write it down so both sides can point at it later.
- Fixed quote with an hours breakdown. You see where the effort goes before committing. Vague briefs get discovery questions, not padded numbers.
- Build on staging against acceptance criteria. Development happens against your real data structures, with the acceptance tests agreed upfront.
- Your sign-off on staging. You test the work where breaking things is free. Nothing promotes to production on our say-so alone.

Common questions
Our pricing rules are genuinely complicated. Too complicated?
Complicated rules are the business case: if a spreadsheet wizard currently prices your quotes, the configurator is that wizard made permanent, testable and scalable. Bring the spreadsheet to discovery.
Can it feed manufacturing directly?
Yes, configurations can generate variant BoMs or specification documents for production, which is where the real cycle-time savings live.
Website configurator or internal tool first?
Usually internal first: sales adoption validates the rules with expert users before you expose them publicly. Then the web version is a frontend on proven logic.
