Odoo vs Linnworks
Linnworks is the UK’s leading multichannel listing and order management platform, strong on marketplace breadth and fulfilment automation across 100+ channels. It is not, on its own, your accounting system: it syncs to one. Odoo competes as the full system underneath, operations and accounting in one place, owned by you. The comparison is about scope.
We implement Odoo, so read accordingly. Here is the honest framing.
Where the real differences are
- What Linnworks is, precisely. A multichannel listing, order and inventory management platform, UK-founded, with 100+ marketplace connections, Royal Mail integration and strong post-Brexit compliance. It is excellent at getting stock listed and orders routed across many channels.
- Ops glue, not the whole system. Linnworks manages the channel and fulfilment layer and then integrates to a separate accounting system (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage). That means you run two systems and reconcile between them. Odoo puts orders, inventory and accounting in one database, so there is nothing to reconcile.
- Cost shape. Linnworks starts around $449 a month on custom, demo-led pricing and scales with usage. Odoo’s per-user licensing (or free Community) does not track order volume, and it replaces both the ops layer and the separate accounting subscription with one owned system.
- Ownership and depth. Linnworks is SaaS you rent, scoped to multichannel ops. Odoo is open source you own, and it reaches into manufacturing, B2B, bespoke workflows and EDI that a listing-and-orders platform does not. If your needs are broadening past channel management, that ceiling matters.
- Where Linnworks genuinely wins. If your core problem is listing and managing stock across a large number of marketplaces, with UK-specific fulfilment and Royal Mail, and you are happy to keep accounting separate, Linnworks’ channel breadth is hard to beat and Odoo would be more than you need.
- Where Odoo genuinely wins. One owned system instead of an ops layer plus a separate accounting package, no reconciliation between them, cost that does not climb with orders, and depth well past channel management. For bol.com and EU crossover specifically, our own connectors add reach Linnworks does not prioritise.
How we’d help you choose
- Requirements from your operation, not a feature grid. We map how your business actually runs and which capabilities are load-bearing rather than nice to have. Feature checklists reward the vendor with the longest list, not the best fit for you.
- Total cost over five years, written down. Licensing, implementation, customisation, hosting, and the ongoing cost of the workarounds you’d keep. The honest number is rarely the sticker price on either side.
- The customisation and lock-in test. What happens when you need something the standard product doesn’t do, and how hard it is to leave later. This is where open source changes the maths, and where we’ll say so plainly.
- A proof before a commitment. Where it matters, we’d rather show the awkward part of your workflow running than argue about it in a slide. Evidence beats persuasion.
- An honest recommendation, even against us. We implement Odoo, so read us accordingly, but we’d rather lose a project than win a bad fit. If the alternative is right for you, we’ll say so.
