Integrate WMS/3PL Systems with Odoo

Handing fulfilment to a 3PL solves warehousing and creates a data problem: their WMS now knows your physical truth, and every system you run needs to agree with it. Stock drift between a 3PL and your channels is the single most common cause of overselling we see in retail audits.

We integrate 3PLs and WMS platforms with Odoo so orders flow out, shipments flow back, and stock reconciles on schedule instead of on faith.

What we connect

  • Order despatch feed. Ready-to-ship orders transmit to the 3PL in their required format (API, EDI or file-based), with the address, service level and packing data they need.
  • Shipment confirmations back. Ship confirmations with carrier and tracking write back to Odoo, closing delivery orders and triggering customer notifications automatically.
  • Stock reconciliation discipline. Scheduled stock snapshots from the 3PL reconcile against Odoo’s expected quantities, with variance reports instead of silent divergence. This is the piece most 3PL setups skip and regret.
  • Goods-in and returns. Inbound POs (containers, supplier deliveries) and customer returns processed at the 3PL update Odoo’s stock and documents correctly.
  • Multi-location reality. Your own warehouse plus one or more 3PLs model as distinct locations with their own rules, so channel stock allocations reflect where inventory really sits.

How logistics and trading partner integrations run

  1. Their requirements gathered first. Carrier, 3PL or retailer specifications collected up front: mandated formats, transport method, message types and the compliance rules they enforce on their side.
  2. Mapping and validation built per partner. Every partner has quirks. Their rules are enforced before a document leaves your system, because a rejected message is a delayed shipment or an unpaid invoice.
  3. Their test cycle, on their schedule. Partner onboarding and certification usually drives the timeline more than the development does. We plan around that honestly rather than promising dates we don’t control.
  4. Despatch rehearsal on real orders. Labels, despatch advices and documents generated against genuine order data on staging, checked by the people who will pack the boxes.
  5. Production with visible failures. Error queues, reasons and alerting from day one. At volume, a silent failure is the expensive kind, so nothing is allowed to fail quietly.

Common questions

Our 3PL has its own Shopify plugin. Why route through Odoo?
Because then the 3PL and your ERP disagree within a week. One integration path through Odoo keeps stock, orders and accounting coherent across every channel, not just one storefront.
What if our 3PL only does CSV over SFTP?
Common and fine. File-based integration with validation and alerting is perfectly robust when built properly; we run several.
How do we handle the stock variance the reconciliation finds?
The report gives you counts and value by SKU; the process decision (who investigates, who adjusts) is agreed in scoping, and Odoo records every adjustment with a reason.
What happens when the 3PL's stock disagrees with Odoo?
A scheduled reconciliation surfaces the variance with the records behind it, and Odoo stays the source of truth for what you own. Variances get investigated as exceptions rather than silently overwritten, because silent correction hides theft, damage and mis-picks.
Can we use more than one 3PL, or a 3PL plus our own warehouse?
Yes. Multi-warehouse with per-location routing rules is native Odoo territory, and it's a common shape: own warehouse for B2B, 3PL for retail fulfilment.
