Why Odoo Wins

Why Odoo Beats Point Solutions

The point-solution stack (a tool for inventory, a tool for shipping, a tool for accounting, a tool for everything, wired together with Zapier and hope) is how modern SMEs accidentally rebuild 1990s enterprise IT with subscriptions. Our argued position: past roughly ten operational staff, best-of-breed becomes worst-of-both: enterprise integration burden without enterprise integration budget.

We audit these stacks weekly; the pattern is uncannily consistent.

The case, point by point

  • The seams are the product. Each tool is fine; the seams between them are where stock drifts, orders duplicate and hours vanish. You don’t experience your tools individually, you experience the stack, and the stack is only as good as its worst sync.
  • Subscription arithmetic. Twelve tools at £30-150 monthly quietly totals serious money, often exceeding an Odoo deployment, while delivering fragmented capability plus per-task automation fees on top.
  • Nobody owns the whole. When the storefront, the inventory app and the accounting tool disagree, each vendor correctly blames the others. A single-database system makes disagreement structurally impossible: one record, one truth, one accountable design.
  • Change amplifies chaos. Add a sales channel to a point stack and every seam needs rework. Add it to Odoo and it’s a configuration project against one data model. Growth punishes stacks and rewards platforms.
  • Consolidation done gradually. The exit isn’t a big bang: Odoo can absorb the stack tool by tool (inventory first, then purchasing, then accounting), each step retiring a subscription and a seam. That’s precisely how we phase these projects.

How we’d prove the case, not just argue it

  1. A costed comparison on your real numbers. Your licences, your app-stack fees, your hours lost to manual work, not a generic claim. The argument on this page only matters if the maths holds for your business.
  2. A proof of concept on your hardest workflow. The process that strains or breaks today, running on Odoo before you commit. We’d rather show it working than promise it will.
  3. A staged switch that keeps you trading. Module by module or channel by channel, with the old system live until each piece is proven. No big-bang cutover, no held breath.
  4. Reconciliation as evidence. Record counts and value checks that prove nothing was lost in the move. Sign-off on numbers, not reassurance.
  5. Exit rights baked in. You own the code and the PostgreSQL database, and Odoo partners are interchangeable by design. The case for switching includes the freedom to switch again.

Common questions

Aren't specialised tools better at their one thing?
Often marginally, and the margin is devoured by integration cost. The honest comparison is best-tool-plus-seams versus very-good-tool-with-none; operationally, coherence beats peak features almost every time.
Which tools survive consolidation?
Genuinely differentiated ones: your email platform, your design tools, niche channel apps. The operational core (inventory, orders, purchasing, accounting) consolidates; the creative periphery federates. We'll map yours specifically.
What's the first move out of a point stack?
Usually inventory and orders into Odoo with the storefront connected: it kills the worst seams first and proves the pattern before accounting follows.
How long does escaping a point stack take?
It's incremental, not a single project: each tool Odoo absorbs is a contained piece of work, so you see relief early and spread the effort. The timeline is driven by how many seams you're replacing, which we'd map in the audit.
